Strengthening Families and Building Community in Richmond

Richmond Family Place has been a cornerstone for families in Richmond since 1979, creating welcoming spaces where parents, caregivers, and children can play, learn, and connect. In 2022–2023, RFP served more than 8,000 children aged 0 to 6, over 8,000 adults, and over 7,000 families through 963 program sessions and more than 16,000 individual visits. Their low-barrier programs—offered at no cost or low cost, as drop-in sessions—builds critical relationships and trust with parents and guardians, many of whom are newcomer families to Canada who may feel isolated.

SVP’s Support

Richmond Family Place is a recipient of SVP Vancouver’s Early Years Innovation Fund, developed to specifically support children under 6. Intervening during this formative time can alter the trajectory of a child’s life and generate an estimated 10x social return to society over time. Through this fund, Richmond Family Place is developing a visionary new non-medical prenatal support program–Prenatal Circles of Support. Using a strength-based, attachment-focused approach, they aim to help new families be equipped for the transition to new parenthood and build strong relationships. All of this is offered at no-cost–unlike other prenatal programs in Richmond which are fee based–this ensures vital support is accessible to all families. 

Alongside this program, SVP is helping strengthen Richmond Family Place’s capacity by focusing on:

• Advancing strategic planning to guide future growth
• Strengthening fundraising practices and growing earned revenue streams, including professional development for program staff
• Developing systems to measure program impact more effectively
• Improving technology infrastructure including designing and building a new website
  

This support will help Richmond Family Place continue to respond to the evolving needs of families and ensure their welcoming spaces remain a trusted community hub for years to come.
