ONE TO ONE Literacy Society

ONE TO ONE Literacy Society provides literacy tutoring for struggling elementary students by over 300 well-trained volunteers who work within schools and in collaboration with classroom and resource teachers. Each school has a coordinator (typically the classroom teacher, resource teacher, or Vice-Principal) who oversees the program. Children are identified by teachers as needing a “boost” in literacy support. These students spend 30 minutes, two to four times per week with a ONE TO ONE volunteer.

With SVP funding and support from Partners, ONE TO ONE piloted a customer relationship management system specifically designed for non-profits, a tool critical to managing their current stage of growth. Two primary focuses of their collaboration with SVP Vancouver are to expand their volunteer base efficiently and package the ONE TO ONE model in order to continue scaling into other communities.

SVP grant commitment: (October 2016) $20,000 which includes generous co-funding from the BPS Wealth Management Group at CIBC Wood Gundy (represented by SVP Partners Geoff Bertram, Tom Porteous and Eric Southam) in the amount of $6,000.
