The Treehouse Unveils New Remote Testimony Space

The Treehouse Child and Youth Advocacy Centre recently offered a sneak peek of its new remote testimony room at its centre, providing children and youth with a safe space to provide testimony in court cases related to their abuse.

The Treehouse creates a comfortable space for young victims of crime and ensures the necessary supports are readily available to support them from the moment they walk through the door. The new remote testimony room at The Treehouse is an extension to this concept. Having the option to testify from a remote testimony room creates safety for the young person and eliminates the possibility that they may encounter the accused, as they would in a courtroom setting. This model returns power to the child/youth and gives the best opportunity for good testimony. The BC Prosecution has been actively involved in the establishment of this space and supports the initiative.

Similar spaces are being developed in Kelowna, Kamloops, Vernon, Cowichan Valley, and Prince George.
